Today is a special day in the community of Nerdfighteria.
It is the annual Project for Awesome, a fundraising event held every December 17th where people from all over the internet donate money to the top charities voted on by the community. There is a livestream running through the entire thing where there is discussion of charities, celebrations of milestones in donations, and lots of very random conversations between the Green brothers and various guests. I have been watching the livestream since I got home this afternoon and I plan to keep watching until I fall asleep since last year (which was my first year of participation) I watched very late into the night and found that it got very interesting in the early hours of the morning when everyone was half asleep or Australian.
I didn’t have time to make a video, but I am going to go on a commenting spree as soon as I finish writing this, since each comment donates one penny to the project. I also donated all of my post Christmas shopping cash to the project, which has left me with no money, but feeling very happy with myself. The Project for Awesome also gives a very strong sense of community to me. It makes me feel like a part of something bigger than myself, and like I have the capability to change the world for the better despite sometimes feeling insignificant.
Basically, if you can. donate to the Project for Awesome. You won’t regret it.
PS I will give you a list of punishments next week…. I gotta think up something good….
